The installation of the 65-meter high Buddha statue at the Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen Temple in Bangkok, Thailand is nearing completion. It is installed since 2017 and has been delayed due to the COVID-19, meanwhile, the opening date may also be delayed until 2022 according to the temple.
The overall stand height of this giant Sakyamuni Buddha statue(including the lotus base) is 71m high which is equivalent to a 20-story building. Its surface adoptS copper plate and sprayed with gold lacquer, making this large Buddha statue not only became a landmark on the Chao Phraya River Canal, but also attracted twice as many visitors as usual. To build such a sitting Buddha sculpture is to honor Buddhism and also as a tribute to former abbot Luang Pu Sodh Candasaro according to the local Reuters.
